If you're in the market for the best portable heat pump or air conditioner there are quite a few things you should know that will save you a lot of money, time and energy.  There are a few basic facts you need to know before you buy a residential  portable heat pump or air conditioning unit.  There are just a few brands making these units. Many of the manufacturers concentrate on the window heat pumps or window air conditioning units. Some make ground heat pumps requiring the laying of pipe in ground-- and not a cheap way to go or they are into geothermal heat pumps.  Then there are ductless, gas, wall, water source, split, split air systems and packages.

We will focus more on the mobile portable heat pumps that require no installation- no wiring - the AC units that you can use at home - in your house, condo, apartment, and garage or in any room. Portable heat pumps for your home are much cheaper than the window heat pumps or air conditioners.  You can save a lot of money plus you have the convenience and efficiency with the portable AC units.  You can easily take the heat pump from room to room.  Some have casters or wheels.  They don't weigh a lot, depending on the model and brand; they can weigh from 20 to 80 pounds.

You'll find that portable air conditioners with heat pump technology perform well and give you lots of value because they are cheaper than window units.  In the days when we are trying to conserve energy and be more efficient manufacturers focus on efficiency - they are energy efficient and you can use them even if you have central air conditioning in your home. Often rooms that are far away from the central area don't keep cool unless you use a portable heat pump or AC unit.

Freestanding portable heat pumps also are dehumidifiers.  They keep the air cool and dry.  You shouldn't have to worry about water draining and condensation.

To check the cooling capacity of the portable heat pump or air conditioner you want to buy, check out the BTU's.  That mean's British thermal units and indicate the cooling capacity. Some AC units vent through a room window so check to see if that's the case with the air conditioner you plan to buy.

There are many good brands of air conditioners and heat pumps and portable heat pumps - manufacturers include, Carrier, Trane, Soleus, Goodman, Amana, Honeywell, York, Danfoss, Daikin, Lennox (Lenox), Bryant, Heil, Gibson, Rudd  (Ruud), Sanyo, Coleman, GE, Hayward, Fujitsu, Nordyne, Sears and Hannibal. See my list of heat pump manufacturers. Then there is American Standard, Aire-Flo, Arcoaire, Armstrong and Fedders.

Best heat pump prices and extra costs, whether you get free shipping or not can vary. Many dealers, sellers and vendors offer free shipping.

All heat pumps come with a warranty.  Make sure to check your warranty so you will be prepared if you need troubleshooting, repairs or parts such as fans, oscillating fans, thermostats and compressors. Maintenance should be easy.
